And Now The Pope…

Today has been filled with news about the declining health and imminent death of Pope John Paul II. It is an interesting historical juxtiposition for Terri Shiavo to die yesterday and the Pope to be at death’s door today.

John Paul IIJohn Paul’s significance transcended his religious office. He was instrumental in aiding the collapse of the Soviet Union and its empire. He was a prayerful and loving man yet he is also the Pope who never completely came to terms with the depth of the abuse scandal within the ranks of the Catholic priesthood. He was, like us all who attempt to do the will of our Father in heaven, flawed and constantly in need of grace.

I pray tonight for his soul, for forgiveness for his failures and hope for his eternal destiny. My prayers join those of more than a billion others and like for no other figure born of a human father in all of history is heaven being beseiged at this very moment.

Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy.

Rest in peace and the joy of the Lord Karol Wojtyla, rest in peace.

  1. Not to be disrespectful, but I thought I’d find a bubbly comment on the gathering. Saw photos at Jollyblogger! Hope you had a good time. About recent events, who can miss the irony of it all. God is amazingly blatant when He wants to be. Still, many miss the correlation. Terri Schiavo’s story has affected us all, and shall we never forget it. The media hype, to be expected, is crude following the callous overtones in their rendition of Terri’s death.
