Quotes For The Day

I decided to go through a few of the quotes I have been collecting and share them with you.

Anxiety
” It is said that our anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, but only empties today of its strength.”
Charles H. Spurgeon. In direct contrast to Jesus in Matthew 6:34 who said “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

Emotions
“Emotions are like the weather: they are the sky above my head, not the earth beneath my feet.” Neil Uchitel (This comes from a comment Neil made to a post on my site – Happiness). I love this quote.

Faith
“Many peoples’ faith is a like a weak AM radio station in the evening, it comes and goes. Sometimes it is so strong it blares out at you almost overwhelmingly and then suddenly it has drifted into muteness only to come raging back, when you thought it was lost forever.” Unknown – I picked this up from a comment on a blog and forget to note the author or the blog. Several searches have failed to turn up anything. If you know the source, let me know. It is one of my favorite analogies about faith.

Pride
“No man ever had a point of pride that wasn’t injurious to him.” Ralph Waldo Emerson. We always think we will be different, that somehow we will avoid the pitfalls that sank all those before us. As Proverbs 16:18 succinctly says “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”

Quitting
“Pain is temporary. Quitting lasts forever.” – Lance Armstrong. If that doesn’t describe the essence of discipleship as referenced in Hebrews 12:3-13 I don’t know what does.

Time
“Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.” H. Jackson Brown. I have always thought that we have enough time for what it is we want to do and not enough for what we don’t want to do.

Have a blessed weekend.
