We all have verses in the Bible that are difficult for us to deal with. I am not just talking about just those that are hard to understand, but also verses that strike home to us and give us pause, either because of their demand on our lives or because of how they affect our sense of ourselves as a Christian. My hardest verse is Matthew 7:23, “And then will I declare to them, “I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.” You can see my posting on that verse here.
When I made that posting I included a challenge to everyone who read that post to think, pray, and write about what for them is the hardest verse in the bible, and then trackback to the post. I believed it would be both interesting and useful to see if any patterns developed within the verses that people struggled with. I also asked for any posters to tag two other people with the same request and have them trackback (or email me if you don’t have trackbacks) to the original post (located here).
It has taken a while, but this morning I had the first direct response to my challenge (I did have one person, Rooted In Him, who responded with a post he had already written). It has come from Paula at Listen In. Her post is on 1 Peter 1: 13-17 and addresses what she calls her “stumbling after Jesus along that narrow road.” I can relate to that and I think you can also. Bill, the tags have been made. Thank you for this challenge (as if I needed another!); it was a good thing for me to follow through. The Lord was gentle when He picked me up from my stumbling through it, as He always is.
I thought Paula’s “stumbling” comment was pretty astute myself!
