Lent 2008: Day 19 – I’ve Been Tagged

Almost half of the way through Lent and I’ve been tagged by Starving Econ Grad over at Bounded Irrationality on a rather strange meme. It has been a while since I did one of these, but then Lent is the time for sacrifice… 😉

1) I’m supposed to grab the nearest book and turn to page 123.
2) Find the first five sentences.
3) Post the next three sentences.
4) Tag 5 more people.

Sorry, but #4 won’t work as I do not have enough blogging associates these days to tag. However, I will do 1-3. My book is Father Elijah: An Apocalypse by Michael D. O’Brian, which was sitting at my elbow when I discovered the link, the tag, and the requirements. Here goes:

“You always say amusing things. That is a gift from the Lord. It lifts the heart.”

There you are, pretty simple, possibly profound, claim that it is talking about you.

If you are so inclined after reading this, consider yourself tagged. Maybe the effort will lift your heart. It was enjoyable for me to remember those lines from the story. Humor does lift the heart and those who have the gift and use it wisely and righteously are indeed a gift from God and highly to be treasured. I also want to include people who really know how to laugh, like my wife. She has a world-class laugh.

Grace and peace and a little humor to your day.

Addendum: Since I am in the book, I thought I might pull another little treasure from its pages, a prayerful poem.

What in me is dark, illumine,
What is low, raise and support;
That to the height of this great Argument
I may assert eternal providence,
And justify the ways of God to men.

  1. “And Moses said to them, This is the bread which the Lord has given you to eat.
This is what the Lord has commanded: Let every man gather as much of it as he will need, an omer for each person, according to the number of your persons; take it, every man for those in his tent.
The people did so, and gathered, some more, and some less.”

You know, I’ll bet the commies like that one. I can see several modern pols quoting it as they ration our food. 😉

    *cough*
