Hubble Tuesdays: The Eagle Has Risen

One of my favorite scriptures as a young Christian was Isaiah 40:31.

…but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

It is hard to look at this picture of a stellar spire in the Eagle Nebula (M16) without thinking about mounting up with wings like eagles stretching out to meet our soaring purpose in the Most High.

Sometimes, when I look at pictures from the Hubble telescope, I almost feel as if it is God’s own instrument, giving us a bird’ s-eye view of his marvelous works so we can, with Paul and the Church at Rome, say, “For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made…”

I have been fortunate to have a long-time friend who works on the Hubble project at NASA. He helps design the missions that service and repair this marvelous instrument, which continually reveals the majesty of God. He is now working on extending its life for a little while longer. It is already years past its original expectations.

I am very sorry for this late posting of Hubble Tuesdays on a Thursday. Man did the week slip away on me.
