One thing a Christian learns about life is that it is marked by changes. You start out with the great change from death to life, which includes (for most converts) a radical change in the way you live your life. But as you grow into the new creation God has destined you to be you are faced with constant change as the old man diminishes (not without a fight and sometimes with a few apparent victories) and you leave behind the former things and embrace Christ in all his fullness.
But that is only one aspect of the changes life brings, albeit the fundamental one and one that should prepare you to deal with other changes in life. As one gets older and approaches the latter portion of one’s life, your body changes. This is against your will and while you can slow the effects of time by exercise, good nutrition, and reducing risks, you cannot stop the changes. As one gets older your relationships also change. People that you knew and related to on various levels, family, friends, and acquaintances, begin to die. Three years ago I lost my mother and now my father is in early Alzheimers.
Sometimes work changes. After twenty years working as a contractor I have accepted a full-time job. I am now an employee. Gone are the flexible hours working out of a home office. Instead, now I am at work by 7:30 and home by 7:30 that evening. There is a lot to do and so much to learn in a very short time. Being the grinder that I am, I am spending the time necessary to meet the goals, but that means very little time for other things, like blogging. It doesnt mean I am giving up my blog, only that posting will be limited for a while, until I learn this new job and dont feel like I am drinking water through a fire hose.
Remember me in your prayers over the next two months as I come up to speed and try to meet the intense deadlines facing my new company. They think I am going to be a big help to them going forward and I want to live up to that expectation.
May God grant you grace and peace and the energy you need as you start your week.
My thoughts are with you, Brother Meisheid. Such a contrast to your years of home-office will only be tempered with the Lord’s grace. I’ll pray about the transition to those long hours and life stuff… I do also pray, as Paul wrote in Colossians 3.
Will be praying for you William. Especially that the 12 hour days won’t last for too long. 🙂
