Rimshots #17 “Hell”

“Hell is a debtor’s prison where all means of payment have disappeared.” William Meisheid 1/30/05

Sometimes my mind goes off on tangent while listening to a sermon, since the preacher’s words often spark rabbit trails that my attention readily scurries down. This Sunday I was struck by the thought that hell was a place where all those in attendance have decided to pay their own debts, having rejected the offer of Jesus Christ to pay it for them. Since one way or another the debt must be paid you could say that hell is a debtor’s prison where all means of payment have disappeared. Most of those in hell radically underestimated the cost of sin and overestimated the value of their perceived goodness.

Something to ponder on a Sunday evening when wandering about the rim…
