Lent 2008: Day 20 – A Special Blessing

We are at the halfway point, and I must admit it has been hard trying to keep this going. But then that is not unexpected. It is the nature of carrying around the old man.

We often think to ourselves, if only I had the advantage of the Apostles, if I had been able to walk with Jesus, things would be different. Would they? I think not. We are after all human, saddled with our old fallen nature, so why would we be any better than they were. We too would fall asleep when he needed us or be guilty of some other failing.

We do have a promise, however, that I believe very few of us depend on or call upon in times of need.

Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”  John 20:29

That applies to all of us. We have a special blessing straight from our Lord. We also have his prayer for us.

I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.

We have his intercession and his blessing. Remember that the next time you pray. Ask our Lord for that blessing, to make its power and purpose real in your life. Thank him for his intercession and stand firm on its reliable continuance daily in your life.

Grace and peace be with you as you continue your journey, firm in the knowledge of the blessing and intercession of the Lord.
