…we want what puts an end to wanting what we want. – John Fowles, The Aristos
Wanting is a strange sort of state. It brings wonderful enjoyment when expressed in moderation so that the getting satisfies without debauching the experience. When unbridled, however, and allowed to become a passion, then it consumes and the getting destroys the joy that could have been had and is replaced instead by a corrupted wanting that becomes utterly possessive, which in its extreme creates Gollums in its wake.
