Various blogs have been posting some of the weird search terms people use to come to their blog but I have several recent ones that appeared really strange, at least at first glance. The first one makes me wonder why anyone who entered it would come to my site. It is gay cowboy boot worship. They ended up in my social category which has a fair number of postings so somehow the terms were there when you combine several entries. I am pretty sure, however, they were surprised to find themselves on an evangelical Christian blog, though they did stay a while and look at some of my other pages. God works in mysterious ways.
The second apparently weird set of search terms was james packer wife kit. At first I asked myself, what is a wife kit? But then I realized, looking at the post they found, that they were searching for information on Dr. Packer’s wife, Kit Packer. Sometimes it is how we parse the terms that makes all the difference.
I have also been getting a lot of hits for butterflies + christianity. They get my post Butterflies And Tipping Points as their first hit on Google. Someone finally asked me if I knew anywhere in the Bible where butterflies were mentioned so I added a comment explaining that they aren’t. While butterflies being reborn from a caterpillar makes a great illustration, it is not one used in the bible.
The one post on my site that gets the largest number of hits, sometimes up to ten a day even after all this time, is in response to a variation on the search terms volkswagon terrorist for which I come up number one on Google. I did a post on the now famous Volkswagen Polo ad that was done on spec by two producers (and rejected by Volkswagen) called the Quintessential Volkswagon Ad. Yes, I spelled Volkswagen wrong substituting an O for the E but then so do a lot of people. Since this post is so popular I put the actual ad on my site for guaranteed access. Sometimes links break.
The second most accessed post has the search terms missing you poem or near variants to thank for its popularity. It sends people to either my poetry category or directly to the Poem: Missing You. There must be a lot of people out there looking for a way to express their sense of loss. A fair number of these people read other areas of the blog.
Thanks to Google’s image search feature I also get regular hits on two images on my site. One is the Wayback Machine from the Rocky and Bullwinkle show and the other is The Annunciation by Henry Tanner, my favorite painting of the Annunciation. Both of these images (and the posting they are in) get accessed at least four or five times a week.
Terrorism and loneliness, Professor Peabody and Mary meeting the Holy Spirit, four radically different items but they top my search hits. For those of you who might be wondering what is the most accessed posting on my site, including search engine results plus other access means, it is the Knowing God study which will have an update later today.
Grace and peace to your day and may God be merciful to us both.
